DID: How to Register as a Jobseeker and Access Unemployment Benefits in Italy

Lost your job in Italy? The DID declaration is step one for receiving NASpi, free training, and welfare support. It takes 10 minutes online with SPID β€” and the deadlines are tight.

In a nutshell

The DID (Dichiarazione di Immediata DisponibilitΓ  al lavoro β€” Immediate Work Availability Declaration) is your official jobseeker registration: you declare that you are ready to work and to take part in training courses, and you gain the official unemployed status recognised by the Centro per l'Impiego (CPI β€” Italy's public employment centre). Without it you cannot apply for NASpi (Italy's unemployment benefit), access free training courses, or receive the Inclusion Allowance.

What you can access with a DID

Once your DID is active, several doors open. The main one is NASpi β€” the monthly unemployment allowance paid by INPS (Italy's social-security agency β€” pensions, unemployment, family benefits) when you lose your job involuntarily (dismissal, end of contract, or resignation for just cause). The amount is 75% of your average last salary, up to a maximum of approximately €1,560 per month in 2026, for a duration equal to half the weeks of contributions paid in the previous four years (maximum 24 months).

With a DID you can also:

  • Access SFL (Supporto Formazione e Lavoro β€” Training and Work Support): €350 per month for 12 months, if you are 18–59 years old and your household ISEE (income-and-wealth indicator used to qualify for means-tested benefits) is up to €10,140
  • Receive ADI (Assegno di Inclusione β€” Inclusion Allowance) if your household includes minors, people with disabilities, or adults over 60
  • Enrol in free vocational training courses funded by the Regione Lazio
  • Take part in internships and programmes such as Garanzia Giovani (ages 15–29) and GOL

How to file the DID: two options

Online (faster)

Go to www.siisl.it using SPID (Italy's digital identity for accessing online public services), CIE (Italian electronic ID card), or CNS. Alternatively, access via anpal.gov.it/did-online. Fill in the form with your personal details, contact information, education, work history and your last gross annual salary (RAL β€” needed to assess whether future job offers are suitable). Sign digitally and receive your DID number instantly as a PDF. The system automatically forwards it to the employment centre responsible for your area of residence.

In person at the employment centre

Book an appointment online at www.siisl.it or by calling your local CPI directly. Bring your identity document, Codice Fiscale, residence permit if you are a non-EU citizen, your last Certificazione Unica (CU β€” annual tax certificate) or payslip, and your qualification certificates. A staff member will help you complete the form.

The Personalised Service Agreement (PSP)

Within 30 days of your DID, the employment centre will call you in to sign the Patto di Servizio Personalizzato (PSP β€” Personalised Service Agreement): a shared plan that sets your employment goals, your scheduled check-ins with the CPI, and any mandatory training you must attend. Signing is compulsory β€” if you miss the appointment without a valid excuse, you lose your unemployed status.

Who can file a DID

The following are required to file one: workers who lost their job involuntarily (within 68 days for NASpi), recipients of ADI and SFL, and workers on Cassa Integrazione (CIG β€” state-funded temporary wage support when a company suspends or reduces work) who are actively seeking other employment.

The following may file one voluntarily:

  • Recent graduates and young NEETs who have never worked
  • Self-employed workers or holders of a Partita IVA (Italian VAT number β€” required to invoice as a self-employed worker) with no active income
  • People returning to the labour market after a period of caregiving
  • Foreign nationals with a residence permit that authorises employment

For non-EU citizens, the DID is accessible with a work permit, family-reunification permit, student permit (up to 20 hours per week), international protection permit, or EU long-term residence permit. Holders of permits issued solely for tourism, business visits, or routine medical treatment are not eligible.

Keeping your unemployed status active

Unemployed status is not automatic indefinitely β€” you need to actively maintain it.

  • Renew your DID online every 12–18 months: if it expires, your status lapses automatically
  • Attend all CPI appointments: absences must be justified within 5 days
  • Report any new work activity to the CPI within 5 days of starting, even if it is occasional
  • Accept suitable job offers: you can decline at most twice, and only with a valid reason

You also lose unemployed status if you exceed income thresholds: more than €8,500 per year from employment or more than €5,500 from self-employment.

Mistakes to avoid

  1. Waiting too long after losing your job. The 68-day deadline for filing a NASpi application with INPS is a hard cut-off β€” miss it and you lose the right to the allowance. File your DID within 8 days of your last working day if you want NASpi to start from the day after your contract ended.
  2. Skipping the Service Agreement appointment. An unjustified absence from the PSP call-in is treated as a voluntary waiver of unemployed status. If you cannot attend, provide documentation in advance.
  3. Using unofficial websites. The DID must be filed at www.siisl.it or www.anpal.gov.it, or in person at the CPI. No private consultant can obtain additional benefits for you in exchange for payment.

Special cases

You resigned voluntarily? You are not entitled to NASpi, unless you resigned for just cause, during maternity leave, or through a union-mediated settlement. You can still file a DID to access training, internships, and hiring incentives.

You have an inactive Partita IVA? You can file a DID if you have no revenue. If you formally close your Partita IVA, you can also access standard unemployment benefits.

Your DID lapsed because you forgot to renew it? You can re-file at any time on SIISL. Unemployed status restarts from the new declaration date, but you lose any backdated NASpi entitlement.

You are a young NEET (ages 15–29)? You can access Garanzia Giovani and the GOL Lazio programme: personalised training pathways launched after registering on SIISL and completing an initial interview at the CPI within 60 days.
